How to explain "Where the babies come from?"

Updated on September 26, 2012

Where do babies come from?

Do you remember when you ask yourself or someone else ( if you were brave enough) this question first time? Do you? How old you were back then? Whom did you ask? And most important question, what answer did you get back?

Some people have been told what they were found in a cabbage, other -- brought to parents by stork. Some believed they were present from beautiful Fairy form faraway Fairyland to their parents for the exceptional love they had for each other...and some, even in their adulthood still hear that, they are definitely from the moon!!!

If you think about providing your child with a "story" and not mentioning the truth, then in this lens I'll try to cover all possible answers I can think of right now and will add new ones as soon as they come up to my head...

Found in a cabbage?

Did your child ask this question already?

I'm interested, those of adults, who gave the answer " You were found in the cabbage...", did they got another, following ones, such as, in what kind of cabbage they were found (broccoli, brussel's sprouts or cauliflowers)? Where you found the cabbage patch (for those who live in the City)? Or how do you get there, or can he(she) can go there too to find a sister or brother ( or both)?

Kids will be back for the same question over and over until they are satisfied with all answers from which they will create "whole picture" for themselves.

But if you chose this version of the answer, then later you'll need to change this version for other one, more appropriate for the child's age (if kid would like ask you again). Kids are much smarter than we thinking about them. When child understood that was a lie, even this question still bother him(her), I don't think he(she) will choose to ask you about it again.

So, if you did say they were found in cabbage, then to make it believable "prove" your words: at least you can do read the books, watch cartoons or movies about this subject with your child.

For girls you can tell the story about Cabbage Patch Kids, or even buy one of the Cabbage Doll.

According to Wikipedia Site, " Many years ago, a young boy named Xavier happened upon an enchanted Cabbage Patch, where he found very special Little People who called themselves Cabbage Patch Kids. To help fulfill the Cabbage Patch Kids' dream of having families with whom to share their love, Xavier set about building a special place known as BabyLand General, where the Kids remain until each is chosen for adoption."

Babies in Cabbage Patch

Fairyland and its residents.

Does your daughter/son believe in Fairyland and existing of fairies and all kind off magical creatures? If you think that to know the truth is to early for your child, or simply don't want to tell the truth about it at all, then fairy version might be exactly what you need.

Amazing story to read to your kid

This story about fairy without any wings. So she looks just like real girl in our real life. It can make "some connections" between Fairyland and real life, if you chose to say your child a "Fairy" legend about where kids are come from.

Fairy Wings: A Story
Fairy Wings: A Story
I personally, love this book because the story itself and all beautiful, wonderful pictures by Lauren Mills and Dennis Nolan. This story about tiny wingless fairy, named Fia. Although all other fairies are look down at her, including her own 7 older sisters, because she doesn't have any wings, she managed to save all fairies in their Kingdom from ugly, wicked and huge Troll! This story teaches how difficult is to be different from others but that is always a way to prove yourself worth to be loved, respected and trusted by everyone.

Kids and Fairyland's stories

Doesn't matter if your child knows the truth about the babies or thinks all of us fell from the moon... All kids love a fairy tales, just a different ones.

Fairy tales are kind of relaxing therapy for the kids. Through them kids learn how to solve their own problems in the real life. Parents, if they are listen carefully to those questions their kids asking, or summarizing they made after reading, can learn a lot! And then, choosing an appropriate book for a next time story-reading time and you can help your child solving their "little problems" without doing much! Read to them every day, help them appreciate and love books.

You can find almost any book on ebay but much cheaper than anywhere...

Best wishes from stork

For those who live in village or small town and who can see a stork time to time the version about the stork 's bringing babies might be look more believable. At least this part of story its more appealing to me, than falling from the moon or any other planet... These birds are really beautiful and gracious, and very smart, as the matter of fact.

Some cartoons, books and movies, such as "Dumbo" for example, where stork's bringing cubs/babies to each animal in the circus, can provide "proves" to your words about stork's story for your child:))

"Proof about a stork" on the paper....

If you love Disney's wonderful " Dumbo" movie, you will like this book.

A stork bringing a baby

Do you beileve in a "stork story" yet?

Where the babies do come from - When you chose to say the truth to your child, answering this question

How to explain where the babies do come from?

I completely agree with Francine Sanches that most of adults ( parents particularly) are feel uncomfortable when they're asked about it. I found her article "How to explain where the babies come from" very considered and useful... She gives instructions and answers for some further question that might rise up.

Where Do Babies Come From? - The books that related to this question

There are many good books that can help you decide how to discuss sexuality and reproduction with your children, so don't feel like you have to muddle through it alone. You might want to scour the library or consult your children's librarian for age-appropriate books that can further your child's understanding of her body and the conception, development, and birth, or you can buy book, depending on the age of the child, and discuss this question at home, returning to the book as many times as you need...

BABIES - Official Trailer [HD]

All babies are different, growing in different country with different cultures and traditions to raise kids.

4yr old Uncle Kaeden explains where babies come from

Will you say any of the version I've mention above or create your own story, or simply say the truth as is to your child?...Whatever you will chose to say to your little one, it's completely up to you. Just remember: you and your precious kid(s) have to be comfortable with and happy with that answer. At least for a while, until next question:))) All other things such as other people disagree with your decision in this question, really doesn't matter... Each of us has right to have own opinion...
