Handmade Cards for Christmas
Handmade or manufactured Christmas cards?
Christmas time is coming soon... All of us love to receive presents, cards and celebrate holidays in nicely decorated homes. That's why most of people are trying to prepare everything (gifts, greeting cards, decorations) ahead of time, when we won't rush and will pick a perfect gift for each person from the list. With the gifts there are always cards where and from whom this particular present is come from with Christmas wishes for a year.. While receiving a huge amount of cards each year, which ones we're treasuring most? Right, the ones are unique, that ones you won't find in packs for sale, that ones the sender took the time to make by hand with love... Handmade cards say so much more than store-bought (manufactured) cards, in my opinion... A handmade Christmas Card shares a little of your passion for paper crafting, along with a whole lot of love and friendship.
Christmas ideas for school fundraiser.
My two younger kids are attending Academy, new public school in our area. Most school has different kinds of fundraisers, and this school isn't an exception. But because of financial problems almost each family is experiencing lately, the parents decided to hold a meeting where we all will discuss how we can raise the money for school without actually donating any money...
Last year the school had started a fundraiser to raise money to buy musical instruments for the Rhythm and Movements class.
As it was middle of November I had suggested making handmade holiday cards for Christmas, using collage or scrap-booking technique, drawing or painting them or using techniques, I've mentioned, all at once.
I had made for this event handmade Christmas cards, and gave those cards to the art teacher as an example, and each class in school was making at least 2-3 cards per each child... Then each card was sold $5 (each)...I donated a few of my drawings, also other parents donate their crafts for this fundraiser... Plus there were a lot of other art ideas, the great food were served, and of course, kids performance was simply amazing! This event took place in the small Lutheran Church in our area and many people were attended this event! As a result of everyone's hard work the fundraiser was a huge success!
Card making
Card making is the craft of hand-making greeting cards. Many people with interests in crafts such as scrapbooking and stamping have begun to use their skills to start making handmade cards. Card making is becoming a popular hobby.
There are many different variations of handmade cards including decoupage, more commonly known as 3D, where a design is printed a number of times, then various areas of the design are cut and layered on top of each other using double-sided sticky foam squares to mount the layers together to create the 3D effect making a very attractive greeting card.

History of cardmaking
The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who exchanged messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, and to the early Egyptians, who conveyed their greetings on papyrus scrolls.
In Europe people started to create and exchanged their handmade paper greeting cards only in early years of 15th century. However, by the 1850s, the greeting card had been transformed from a relatively expensive, handmade and hand-delivered gift to a popular and affordable means of personal communication, due largely to advances in printing and mechanization. The greeting cards become more popular and much cheaper than before... Because technical development was moving forward so fast and with help of color lithography, computers manufactured greeting card industry leaped forward in few huge steps.
But in 80-s of 20th century (about 25-30 years ago) the trend began to turn, and people once again start looking for greeting cards that were different from the standard offering/ manufactured; and amount of such people still increasing.

It is great to have some specific scrapbooking or cardmaking supplies, but if you don't have any then you can simply look around your house for stuff you would be able to turn into beautiful handmade Christmas cards. For those cards, that I'd made for school I used up all my scrapbooking scraps and everything I found around the house (foil, Christmas theme and other wrapping paper, ribbons, white and color paper, old Christmas cards, Christmas theme tape, etc.).

History of scrapbooking.
With the advent of affordable paper, precursors to modern scrapbooks became available to a wider array of people. Beginning in the 15th century, commonplace books, popular in England, emerged as a way to compile information that included recipes, quotes, letters, poems and more. Each commonplace book was unique to its creator's particular interests. Friendship albums became popular in the 16th century. These albums were used much like modern day yearbooks, where friends or patrons would enter their names, titles and short texts or illustrations at the request of the album's owner. These albums were often created as souvenirs of European tours and would contain local memorabilia including coats of arms or local artisans commission works of art.
